Summit County Libraries accepting food for fines

To help local food banks meet rising demand, the Summit County Libraries will collect food goods in lieu of monetary fines for overdue library materials, from Jan. 3-14.

According to Social Services, items specifically requested are: soups, stews, canned meat, rice, peanut butter, beans, cereal, powdered milk and crackers.

Only foods requested by Social Services will be accepted, at this time. Food cannot be used in payment for lost library materials. Start the new year off right, with a clean slate and no fines. There are no set required amounts to cover your fines ? just let your conscious be your guide.

Seedling trees for conservation

Summit County Extension and the Colorado State Forest Service are partnering to provide Summit County landowners with seedling trees, grown from native stock at the State Forest Service Nursery in Fort Collins. Seedlings are sold in lots of 30 or 50, and include native mountain species such as Engelmann spruce, Colorado blue spruce, Douglas-fir, limber pine and Bristlecone pine. Nursery seedlings offer an affordable way to ensure a diverse, forested landscape on your property in years to come. Place your order early for the best selection, as popular varieties often run out. Seedlings will be available for pickup in Frisco in May (exact date to be determined). To download an order form and for more info, visit www.extension.colostate.edu/summit/ or call the Extension office at (970) 668-3595.
