Pittsburgh Football: Which Former Player Will Have the Best Rookie NFL Season

The Pittsburgh Panthers did not have a single player taken in the 2012 NFL draft.

That's really got to hurt, for a school that produced NFL sensation, Larry Fitzgerald.

Out of the nine Pitt players, there was not a single one that caught the eye of any of the 32 NFL teams.? Since then, several players have signed free-agent contracts:

  • Offensive lineman Lucas Nix with the Oakland Raiders.
  • Linebacker Greg Williams with the Houston Texans.
  • Defensive back Antwuan Reed with the Cleveland Browns
  • Linebacker Max Gruder with the Atlanta Falcons.
  • Defensive back Buddy Jackson with the Indianapolis Colts.
  • Defensive lineman Chas Alecxih with the Miami Dolphins

Now if none of these players were considered to be in the top 253 players then it is difficult to imagine any of them becoming a starter immediately.

It's going to be the little things.

A role on the special teams unit is more likely at this point in these players' careers.

While some of these players don't have the athleticism to play on special teams or to get real opportunities in their unit, this player will rise above the rest.
